Seasonal Ayurvedic Body Rituals

A living practice that moves with the year

Your body is not the same in January as it is in July. Your nervous system, your tissues, your energy — all of it shifts with the light, the temperature, the quality of the air. Ayurveda has always known this. And this offering is built around that truth.

Seasonal Ayurvedic Body Rituals is a 90-minute in-person treatment at Soma in Belfast, Maine — one practice that changes with each season, meeting your body exactly where it is in the wheel of the year.

What This Is

This is not a spa treatment. It is a ritual — a nervous-system-informed, body-based practice rooted in Ayurvedic tradition and adapted to the season you are in right now.

Each session works with warm oils, clays, and small-batch Ayurvedic products from Solavedi Organics — crafted locally and chosen specifically for the qualities of the current season. The techniques, the products, the pace, and the intention all shift as the year turns — so that what you receive is always in service of balance, not a one-size-fits-all formula.

Every ritual works with both the physical body and the subtle energy body, supporting the nervous system to settle, the tissues to receive, and the whole system to come back into alignment with the season.

The Seasonal Wheel

Spring — Kapha SeasonMove what has accumulated. Kindle the fire.

Spring calls for invigoration. After the long stillness of winter, kapha energy — heavy, slow, dense — can accumulate in the body and mind. The spring ritual uses kapha-balancing oils and clays, garshana dry brushing with raw silk gloves, and more stimulating techniques to move lymph, wake up the tissues, and support the body's natural seasonal clearing. This is the ritual of renewal.

Summer — Pitta SeasonCool the fire. Release what is held.

Summer is the season of heat — in the body, in the mind, in the nervous system. The summer ritual is cooling and releasing, using pitta-balancing oils and clays to draw out excess heat, soften tension, and invite the body into a state of ease. The pace and intention shift toward spaciousness, helping to counterbalance the intensity that summer can bring.

Fall & Early Winter — Vata SeasonGround. Quiet. Come home.

As the air turns cool and dry and the light begins to fade, vata rises — and with it, anxiety, restlessness, and a scattered quality in the mind and nervous system. The fall and early winter ritual is slow, rhythmic, and deeply grounding. Warm vata-balancing oils nourish the tissues, quiet the mind, and bring the nervous system home. This is the ritual of return.

What to Expect

Your 90-minute session at Soma is a dedicated, unhurried experience. You will be held in a warm, quiet space designed for this kind of deep settling.

Each session includes a brief check-in to understand where you are right now — in your body, in the season, in your life — so that the ritual can be tailored to you within the seasonal framework. What follows is 90 minutes of hands-on bodywork, breath, and presence.

You will leave feeling settled in a way that is different from ordinary relaxation. More rooted. More yourself.

  • Offered in person in Belfast, Maine

    • The therapy is done without clothing on a heated massage table, with a sheet used for draping

    • Warm towels are used at the end to gently remove excess oil (this part is often described as divine)

    • Your hair will be quite oily after the session — please bring a hat, scarf, or bandana you don’t mind getting oily

FAQ

  • Not at all. You don't need any prior knowledge or experience with Ayurveda to benefit from this work. Everything you need to know will be shared with you in our brief check-in at the beginning of your session. All you need to bring is yourself.

  • A Seasonal Ayurvedic Body Ritual is not a clinical treatment or a traditional massage. It is a whole-body ritual rooted in Ayurvedic tradition — working with warm oils, clays, and seasonally chosen botanicals to support not just the physical body but the nervous system and the subtle energy body as well. The intention, the pace, and the products are all chosen in relationship with the season and with you specifically, rather than following a fixed protocol.

  • Your session begins with a brief check-in conversation so that the ritual can be tailored to where you are right now. From there, you will receive 90 minutes of hands-on bodywork using warm oils, clays, and techniques chosen for the current season. The pace and quality of touch will vary with the time of year — more invigorating in spring, cooling and releasing in summer, slow and deeply grounding in fall and early winter. After your session, you will be given time to rest and integrate before returning to your day.

  • Come in comfortable, loose clothing that you don't mind having oil on. Avoid eating a heavy meal in the two hours before your session — a light meal is fine. It is also helpful to arrive without rushing if you can, giving yourself a few minutes to transition out of the busyness of your day before we begin. After your session, plan for some quiet time if possible rather than moving straight into a full schedule.

  • Ideally, once per season — allowing your body to receive the support it needs as the year turns. Many people find that a seasonal rhythm of four sessions per year becomes one of the most nourishing anchors of their self-care practice. That said, receiving this work more regularly can have a profound impact, and a single session is always meaningful on its own.

  • All sessions use small-batch, locally crafted Ayurvedic oils, clays, and botanicals from Solavedi Organics — chosen specifically for each season. If you have any known skin sensitivities or allergies, please let me know when you book so we can discuss what will work best for you.

  • Yes — deeply so. Perimenopause is a time when the nervous system becomes more reactive, the tissues can become drier and more depleted, and the body is asking for more nourishment and attunement than usual. Seasonal Ayurvedic Body Rituals are designed with exactly this kind of need in mind. The oils, the touch, the pace, and the intention all support nervous system regulation and deep tissue nourishment — which is some of the most valuable support available during this transition.
